Money20/20 2026: Great Conversations and a Six-Month Clock

Money20/20 wrapped up last week. Between the golf course, two hosted meals and the show floor, I had more good conversations with clients, partners and friends than I can list here. Thank you to everyone who spent time with us.

‍

Sunday: the Golf Classic

We kicked off the week on October 18 at Angel Park with the FS Vector & iDENTIFY Money20/20 Golf Classic. Thank you to our sponsors, Lithic, Helix by Q2, TrueNorth and LoanPro, and to the FS Vector team for running a great day.

‍

Monday: the Fintech Operators Breakfast

We hosted the breakfast at Rockhouse at The Venetian with Kaufman Rossin, and Zeta joined us as a partner. It filled up quickly and more banks kept signing up after we hit our cap. No agenda and no presentations, just good conversation.

‍

Tuesday: the Executive Brunch

We wrapped up the week with an Executive Brunch at Mercato Della Pescheria, co-hosted with FS Vector, Oscilar, Eisen and the American Fintech Council. Risk, compliance and banking leaders spent a few hours on AI, fraud and the balance between innovation and regulation.

‍

The theme I kept hearing

Almost every conversation came back to AI governance and process. Most financial institutions I talked to have dipped a toe in the water. A pilot here, a few tools there. Many are Microsoft shops using Copilot, and others are experimenting with ChatGPT, Grok and Claude. Very few have a real plan, and that is where mistakes get made.

‍

My view is simple: every financial institution needs a plan of six months or less to audit and assess its AI readiness. That means knowing where your data lives, who can touch it, what your governance looks like and which use cases are worth pursuing first.

‍

The current guidance for AI at a financial institution, as far as I can tell, is "don't mess up." It is not much of a framework, and it comes with a catch. The first institution that does mess up becomes the case study everyone else learns from. Nobody wants to be the case study.

‍

That is why we built our AI Readiness Assessment. We see the need, and we want to help banks and credit unions get a clear picture of where they stand so they are not the ones writing the rules by accident.
