We spent October 19 to 21 in booth 1427 at Jack Henry Connect. Eighty-five banks and credit unions stopped by, and nearly every conversation reached the same question: where do we start with AI?
The answer we gave each time was the same. Start with readiness. A bank that knows where it stands on data, governance and risk can pick its first AI project with confidence. A bank that skips that step ends up choosing tools first and finding the gaps later.
Your staff are already using AI
Several people told us some version of the same story. Employees are using AI tools on their own, leadership has no written policy, and nobody has looked at what customer information might be going into those tools. The bank is already in the AI era. It just has no plan for it.
Your examiner will want to see the plan
Bankers also told us regulators are starting to ask about AI. A bank that can hand over a governance packet and a board-approved risk policy answers those questions in an afternoon. A bank without one spends weeks assembling it.
AI amplifies whatever your data looks like
This is the part that surprises people. The smartest AI model is only as good as the data under it. If the numbers in your core, your lending system and your reporting do not agree with each other, an AI assistant will confidently repeat the disagreement. Fixing that comes before any chatbot.
What an AI Readiness Assessment gives your board
The AI Readiness Assessment is the first step we recommend, and it is built so a board or a CFO can say yes to it. Over about three to four weeks, we:
- Meet with your compliance, IT, operations and leadership teams in a working session built around a short questionnaire.
- Review your data, infrastructure and governance, and where AI adoption could go wrong.
- Show what is possible with a live demonstration on a Jack Henry reference environment.
- Deliver an AI governance packet with a bank AI risk policy template, and a board-ready plan with a short list of use cases and the steps to get there.
You finish with a plan you can take to your board and an answer to what comes next.
When the gap is the data, that is where iNSIGHT comes in
For many banks the assessment shows the same thing: the data is scattered across the core, payments, compliance and reporting tools. iNSIGHT is our managed data platform on the Snowflake AI Data Cloud®. We bring those sources into one governed layer, run it for you, and put reporting and AI on top. Banks that already know their data is the problem can start the conversation there.
Where to start
If you want a plan before you commit to a tool, start with the AI Readiness Assessment. If you already know your data is the obstacle, see how iNSIGHT works or book time with Lee.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by the booth and to Jack Henry for a well-run event.
Questions bankers asked us
What is an AI readiness assessment for a bank? A fixed-scope review of your data, governance and risk, ending with a board-ready plan and a bank AI risk policy template.
Do we need to fix our data before using AI? You need to know where it stands. The assessment tells you, and iNSIGHT is how we fix it when it needs fixing.
How long does it take? About three to four weeks from kickoff.
That is why we built our AI Readiness Assessment. We see the need, and we want to help banks and credit unions get a clear picture of where they stand so they are not the ones writing the rules by accident.
If you want to see what a governed data foundation looks like in practice, take a look at iNSIGHT. It is our platform running live on real core data.
